Misread Magic Item: Cubic Date

Back on the horse today, I take a look at the cubic gate. I wanted to keep the feel of the original item, but change it in both form and functionality enough to warrant instant lore inclusion. In this case, I instantly thought a legend of this fruit that would sometimes lead to adventure for those who would harvest it. It might be preserved and passed down, or harvested and served as part of adhering to hospitality. Anyway, it’s just something weird for the day.

Cubic Date
Wondrous item, legendary

This date grows in a perfect cube, reaching 3 inches across and radiating palpable magical energy. No one is sure what causes a cubic date to grow, and many scholars have spent enormous energy in, thus far, failing to reliable grow them. When eaten, the date regrows perfectly until it has been eaten six times. When the date is eaten whole, it is regrown on the tree itself, and if it is stored before being eaten, it returns whole and unblemished in the container at the next dawn.

When you cook the date into a dish, the dish  affects a number of people equal to your proficiency bonus for the next twenty-four hours. The effect is either determined by the DM, or may randomly determined below:
